Genesis 4 tells the story of how Cain's anger led him to kill his brother Abel. Anger is the sin the sin that is crouching at the door and is contrary to us. And when we don't rule over it, it becomes hatred. John writes, everyone who hates his brother or sister is a murderer, and you know no murderer has eternal life.
