Don't Hide the Light

Matthew 5:15

Jesus is incredibly practical here. You don’t light a lamp and then smother it. That would defeat the whole point. In the same way, God didn’t place His light in you so it could be hidden by fear, comfort, or the need to blend in.
Often, the “bowl” isn’t something dramatic. It’s subtle.
Fear of being misunderstood.
Worry about standing out.
The quiet decision to stay silent when love or truth is needed.
Notice that the lamp doesn’t create the light—it carries it. And it doesn’t decide where it belongs. It’s placed. God is intentional about where He positions you: your family, your workplace, your friendships, your season of life. None of that is accidental. Where you are is part of how the light reaches “everyone in the house.”
This verse isn’t a call to perform faith for attention. It’s a call to remove whatever is covering what God has already ignited. When you live openly, humbly, and honestly with Christ at the center, your life begins to brighten spaces you didn’t even realize were dim.
So today, ask gently:
What might I be covering the light with?
And then trust God enough to lift the bowl.
