Love God, Love Others

Mark 12:28-34; Leviticus 19:18

When asked for the greatest commandment, Jesus gave two: love God completely and love your neighbor as yourself. He raised the bar from Deuteronomy's call to love God alone, adding the requirement to love others. This is the Great Shema—the foundation of kingdom living. Yet somehow, we've made exceptions: "Love your neighbor...unless they're progressive, conservative, LGBTQ, or vote differently." But Jesus offers no exemptions. Every person—regardless of lifestyle, politics, or beliefs—bears God's image and deserves dignity. The church is called to be radically different, to be an oddity in a hate-filled world. When a broken person walks through our doors, will they find judgment or grace? Will we love them enough to see them transformed? Choose the Lamb today, not the donkey or elephant.
