Dead in Sin, Alive in Christ

Ephesians 2:1-5

Before grace found us, we were not simply struggling -- we were spiritually dead. Paul does not say we were wounded or wandering. He says dead. Dead people cannot save themselves. They cannot earn their way back. They cannot try harder. And yet, into that hopeless condition, God stepped in. Not because we deserved it, not because we cleaned ourselves up, but because he is rich in mercy and great in love. The same power that raised Christ from the grave is the power that raised you from spiritual death. You were dead. Now you are alive. That is grace.

Reflection: Where in your life have you tried to earn what God has already freely given?

Practical Application: Write down one area where you have been striving in your own strength. Surrender it to God in prayer today, trusting that his grace is already sufficient.
