The Cost Behind the Gift

1 Peter 1:18-19

Grace is free to the one who receives it, but it was not free to the one who paid for it. Peter reminds us that we were not redeemed with silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ. That word "precious" carries enormous weight. It means rare, costly, and of incomparable value. When we treat grace casually -- when we take it for granted or hoard it to ourselves -- we forget what it cost. Jesus was not a victim of circumstances. As he declared in John 10:18, he laid down his life willingly. The gift is free because the price was already paid in full.

Reflection: Do you treat grace as something precious, or have you allowed it to become ordinary in your daily life?

Practical Application: Spend five minutes in silent gratitude today. Do not ask God for anything. Simply thank him for the cross and the price that was paid on your behalf.
