Washed and Made New
Romans 6:3-5
Paul describes baptism as a burial and a resurrection. The old life does not get renovated -- it gets buried. What rises from the water is not an improved version of who you were. It is someone made entirely new by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is not symbolic language designed to make you feel good about small changes. This is the language of death and resurrection. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is the power at work in you. Baptism declares publicly what grace has already accomplished privately. Your old life is not the final chapter of your story. The resurrection is.
